Wild TV Africa is South Africa’s first and only 24-hour outdoor lifestyle and adventure television network and delivers both local and international television shows about various adventure activities including fishing, hunting, camping, mountain biking, hiking, 4×4 adventures, scuba, conservation and covers many more adventure topics.

The network set out to find towns around the country which not only has scenic beauty and outdoor splendour, but a spot where visitors can unwind from the daily stress and build an appetite for adventure.

Only towns were allowed to enter and no cities and adventure activities within a 25km radius were considered as part of the town’s activity list.

Once the towns submitted their entries, six towns in each of the country’s provinces were selected for the next stage of the competition.

Plett was one of these towns and had to submit a three to four minute video insert of its activities. These videos will be broadcast on Wild TV Africa with viewers selecting a provincial winner. Once the six winners are selected they will be promoted on social media, print, radio and television and judges will select the overall winner.

The winning town will receive an advertising and marketing campaign on Wild TV Africa to the value of R500 000 in airtime.

The winner will be announced in November this year.

“It wasn’t a surprise when Wild TV Africa invited us to join the company of other towns to enter their annual Adventure Town of the Year competition. Plett embodies a natural taste for outdoor adventure,” Plett Tourism spokesperson Patty Butterworth said.

She added that adventure was a fundamental component of what the tourism body entails. “With just the right combination of ingredients to fill any visitor’s appetite for adventure, Plett is the perfect host for extreme enthusiasts and connoisseurs of leisure. From Blue Flag beaches to world-class wine farms, from extreme canyoning to swimming with seals, Plett has something for everyone,” she added.

Butterworth further said the opportunity was invaluable. “We are grateful for the invitation and will hopefully be able to showcase what our amazing Plett has on offer.”
