Whiskey Creek Wines Launches Three Cap Classiques in The Crags

Plett Tourism, Eleven Wine Bar, and a Bold New Chapter for Local Wine

Whiskey Creek Wines proudly launched its three handcrafted Méthode Cap Classiques at an unforgettable event held at Eleven Wine Bar, Plettenberg Bay’s first venue dedicated exclusively to Plett Wine of Origin wines. The celebration marked a powerful milestone for this family-run estate and for the growing wine identity of the Garden Route.

The three bubblies – Chenin Blanc Cap Classique, Rosé Cap Classique, and Chardonnay Cap Classique – are grown and made on the Whiskey Creek farm in The Crags, a valley shaped by its namesake creek and a unique cool-climate terroir.

A NAME WITH SPIRIT (AND A STORY)

Whiskey Creek’s name tells a story -and not just of a river. It’s a story of grit, identity, and the power of place.

At first, when the Wilson family set out to register the name “Whiskey Creek” with SAWIS (South African Wine Industry Information & Systems), they were told no. Multiple times. But the name meant too much to give up. They fought for it – and won.

The creek itself is wild and tannin-rich, once used by locals to “water down” whiskey, and now the quiet force behind the farm’s cool, distinctive microclimate.

“We fought hard for this name,” says Cheyenne, Marketing Manager at Whiskey Creek. “And that battle made us even more certain: this isn’t just branding – it’s belonging. It’s who we are, and where we are, this incredibly unique gem of a terroir, that no one knows about, is going to make history one day.”

Family-owned and operated by Colin, Laura, Ian, and Angie Wilson, Whiskey Creek produces six small-batch wines, guided by the minimal-intervention approach of Award-winning winemaker Anton Smal.

“Our terroir speaks, and we listen,” says Anton. “Less Sulphites, no shortcuts – just honest, expressive wine made in rhythm with the land.”

ADVOCATING FOR LOCAL, TOGETHER

Beyond their cellar door, Whiskey Creek is proudly part of a growing movement to champion Plett Wine of Origin producers and build momentum for the region’s wine identity. At the heart of this effort is Eleven Wine Bar – the first and only venue in Plettenberg Bay to stock exclusively Plett Wine of Origin wines.

“Simon at Eleven told us guests often plan to head back to Cape Town for wine tastings because they simply don’t know there’s a wine route right here,” says Cheyenne. “That’s exactly why Eleven exists – why this launch mattered. It’s not just for us – it’s a front door for every local producer.”

Plett Tourism’s support has been essential in growing awareness of this scene. Their presence at the event, and ongoing amplification of local stories, plays a critical role in putting the Plett Wine of Origin region on the map.

Together, Whiskey Creek, Eleven, the Other incredible wine farms of the Garden Route and Plett Tourism are united in their advocacy for local – from vineyard to glass.

CRAFTED FOR MOMENTS THAT MATTER

Whiskey Creek’s philosophy is simple: bold vision, authentic storytelling, and a deep respect for place. Every bottle is a reflection of the wild beauty of The Crags and the people who call it home.

The MCC launch marked more than just a new product – it marked a shared commitment to grow the local wine scene together.

“We’re not competing,” says Cheyenne. “We’re building something bigger than ourselves – something local, lasting, and worth raising a glass to. We all have the same goal in mind!”
