Amidst a fortnight of winter storms followed by calm, clear days, photos and videos are popping up all over social media of the first migrating whales of the Whale Season in Plettenberg Bay have made their presence known in a most spectacular fashion.

In December 2014, Plettenberg Bay was honoured with an award by Dr. Sylvia Earle as one of her international Hope Spots. Dr. Earle has been a National Geographic Explorer since 1998 and is a marine biologist, oceanographer, explorer, author, and lecturer. Known as “Her Deepness”, she was named Time Magazine’s first Hero of the Planet in 1998.
