What is the AIR Project?

The African Indigenous Renaissance (AIR) Project, presented by Cape Town Arts Festival in partnership with Ariva Arts Foundation, is dedicated to reviving, preserving, and celebrating indigenous African music. This initiative nurtures emerging musicians by training them in traditional instrument-making, performance, and industry skills, guided by legendary mentors Dizu Plaatjies and Geoffrey Tracey.

Beyond music, the program also equips participants with essential business, event, and marketing management skills, empowering them to build sustainable careers in the industry. Through this training, these artists are not only rediscovering the sounds of their ancestors but also gaining the tools to thrive in the creative industry.
