SASFED & NETFLIX Collaborate on COVID-19 Film & TV Relief Fund

The South African Screen Federation (SASFED), supported by the Independent Producers Organisation (IPO), has announced the establishment of a COVID-19 Film and Television Relief Fund in collaboration with Netflix to provide emergency relief to the hardest-hit workers in South Africa’s creative community.

Netflix will donate over ZAR 8, 3 million, which will be administered by Tshikululu Social Investment, who will screen the applications for eligibility as well as disburse the funds to beneficiaries. Plett’s restaurants join the #JobsSaveLives protest

Plett's restaurant industry has joined the protests against the government's regulation on their industry, which includes the sale of alcohol in their establishments during Covid-19 lockdown, and the early closing of their premises due to the curfew time of 9pm.

Many restaurants in town set up tables and chairs on the sidewalk and on the side of the road, and employees were seen holding placards as they stood in solidarity against the regulations that prevent them from serving alcohol to diners, and limiting the amount of time diners have due to the curfew restrictions.

Plettenberg Bay sets up 9 free hand sanitizer stations in local townships

Under the guidance of the Plett COVID-19 Response Team, the Plettenberg Bay Tourism Association and the Bitou Municipality have set-up 9 free hand sanitizer stations in the local townships.

The areas lucky to receive the stations include Bossiesgif, Green Valley, Kranshoek, Kwanokuthula Phase 1, Kwanokuthula Phase 2, New Horizons (both Melkhout Road and Keurbooms Road), Pinetrees and The Crags.

Venter has raised funds from various local business leaders to pay for this project, a wonderful asset to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Good news from the WC Dept of Tourism

I am happy to advise that Minister of Tourism Ms Mmamoloko Kubayi- Ngubane shared during a media briefing on the 30th of May 2020 that as of the 1st of June 2020 (level 3) accommodation establishments will no longer require a letter of permission from the Minister of Tourism / National Department of Tourism to accommodate those working in permitted services / essential services.

You are however required to keep records or these guests for inspections by the National Department of Tourism and you have to be able to be accountable, as an owner of the facility, when inspection comes.
